FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your Questions, Answered

SHOULD I SHOWER BEFORE?

Yes! You may be just getting home before your therapist, or arriving at the same time. Let your therapist know, and shower before getting started. We don't want any benefits of the essential oils, carrier oils, lotions, or butters used in each session to be washed off in the shower after, your skin needs that!  The added benefit of increased circulation through massage allows for maximum absorption of these products. Keep the goodness on, why wash it off!

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY THERAPIST?

Communication, professionalism, and boundary checks! You are getting to know your therapist, and they are getting to know you. Be sure to speak up about your boundaries, your comfort zone, security levels, previous experiences that made you feel uncomfortable, ect. Also don't be alarmed by the questions your therapist asks during the consultation that is related to your body, accidents, old injuries, surgeries, current pain levels, level of physical activity and daily habits.  All information is meant to set a personalized tone and increase the quality of each session. Your therapist will continue to check in with you in future sessions to ensure you are receiving what your body needs for each session.

ITS MY FIRST SESSION IN HOME SESSION WITH STATE OF BEING, WHAT ARE YOUR SUGGESTIONS TO MAXIMIZE RELAXATION?

If it is your first time receiving an in-home massage, let's start by saying congratulations on prioritizing your wellness! The familiarity of your home will provide an extra layer of comfort, and most clients want to snuggle in bed after their session or continue their relaxation in some form. With that being said here are our tips:

Begin by setting the tone in your space. Light candles, turn on any form of white noise/ or music YOU find relaxing...even if it's an audiobook!

Secondly, find a room that is a "safe space" and is big enough to fit a massage table as is/a room that space can be created in.

Finally, it is highly suggested you choose a day with the most flexibility in your schedule or a time where you can spare a few hours. For best results and extended relaxation, it is suggested you do your night routine first, no matter the time of your massage.

DO YOU HELP TREAT TERMINAL OR CHRONIC ILLNESS?

While massage never lays claim to healing any illnesses, it is important to note it is one of the more natural forms of treating many symptoms caused by various illnesses. Massage will also never lay claim to treating anything individually, as it is a holistic practice and with all holistic practices, it is a important part of a system that is directly affected by your lifestyle and habits.

WHAT DOES MASSAGE DO FOR THE BODY?

Depending on the style used, massage can help to reduce the body's inflammatory response, increase blood and lymph circulation, increase restricted mobility in joints and tight muscles, and loosen scar tissue. It has been more recently used in the mental health field to assist recovery for victims of traumas and the disease of addiction through a process called somatic therapy. In general, massage plays a vital role in reducing time and improving the quality of the body's natural recovery and healing. For somatic therapies, it helps the individual reconnect back to their body safely.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Not yet. State of Being currently doesn't have the correct medical coding information important to ensuring your claim is not denied. Though there are many medical professionals that refer massage as a form of therapy and rehabilitation, the correct coding is needed ahead of time on our end. It is definitely on the forefront of our to-do list as it is something we are actively looking into as we believe this form of therapy is an impactful tool and should be accessible to all.
